There have been several award-winning trucks from GMC over the years, including the GMC Yukon of 2008. There are four trim levels to the Yukon, including Hybrid, Denali, SLT, and SLE. The SLE version is one of the more popular options, outselling other configurations. Like in 2007 the popular 5.3 liter Vortec has made this a popular choice for sport utility buyers nationwide.

2008 GMC Yukon SLE Specs

The restyled Yukon SLE is equipped with a 5.3-liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Vortec engine is mated to a General Motors four-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2007 version.

The Yukon uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The truck uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

The fuel system for the 2008 Yukon is a traditional SFI, running on FLEX fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 26.00 gallons.

Statistics

116.00 of wheelbase allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers. It sits 76.90 inches off the ground. It seats a standard six passengers, with 4 doors. The dimensions of the Yukon SLE are 202.00 inches long by 79.00 inches wide.

The standard warranty period for the Yukon is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the sport utility market.

Pricing is a vital consideration when shopping for a truck. The GMC Yukon lists at $35,345 when new. The dealer cost on the truck was $32,341. This price was average compared to the industry average price for a 4-door sport utility.

MPG Ratings

The Yukon SLE received a miles-per-gallon rating of 15 - 16 in-city driving and 20 - 22 when it came to highway driving. Being a flex-powered green truck, this was within normal parameters.

In 2007 and 2008 the Yukon SLE was availble in the exterior colors of Deep Blue Metallic, Gold Mist Metallic, Onyx Black, Silver Birch Metallic, Sonoma Red Metallic, Stealth Gray Metallic, Steel Gray Metallic, Summit White, and White Diamond Tricoat. Additional options were available as special orders from the factory.

Parting Shots

There are several reasons why the GMC Yukon SLE sold well in 2008. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a GMC, specifically a Yukon.

The 2002 Yukon is an important vehicle to GMC for the sport utility market segment. The SLE is a member of a series of two trim levels for the Yukon which include SLE and SLT. The four-door truck with its four-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for GMC. There is strong competition from vehicles from Acura.

GMC Yukon Engine Specs

The restyled Yukon SLE is equipped with a General Motors 5.3-liter 8-cylinder engine that utilizes a total of 16 valves. The Vortec engine is paired with a General Motors 4-speed transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for GMC.

For the 2002 Yukon, the fuel delivery system is a electronic SFI, using FLEX for fuel. A fuel-injected MFI configuration. The gas tank holds 26.00 gallons.

The Yukon uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The truck uses torsion bar and coil springs front and rear respectively.

Vehicle Statistics

116.00 of wheelbase allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers. It sits a comfortable 76.70 inches off the ground. It seats a standard six passengers, with 4 doors. The dimensions of the Yukon SLE are 198.90 inches long by 78.90 inches wide.

The GMC Yukon lists at $34,091 when new. The dealer cost on the truck was $29,830.

A powertrain warranty is provided (36,000 miles/36 months), and a 36,000 mile, 36 month guarantee also comes with the GMC Yukon. This is standard for the price range.

Fuel Efficiency

The Yukon SLE received a miles-per-gallon rating of 14 - 15 in-city driving and 18 - 19 when it came to long-distance. Being a flex-powered hybrid truck, this was exceptional.

Conclusion

The 2001 model began the promise of the GMC Yukon. The 2002 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers GMC hopes that the Yukon SLE will continue to be a profitable vehicle.

Shoppers who buy a GMC Yukon are often happy with purchase. For over a decade, the Yukon has been one of the leaders of the GMC brand. This has always been a meaningful truck, and the 2008 model is no different. A sport utility for everyone in the household is what the GMC Yukon delivers.

Engine Performance

GMC Yukon Engine Specs: The Yukon Hybrid comes outfitted with a Vortec 6.0 liter, 8-cylinder motor that uses 16 valves. The engine, manufactured by General Motors, is teamed up with a General Motors 4-speed transmission. This arrangement has demonstrated to be an effective style for GMC.

The Yukon uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The truck uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

Yukon Hybrid Statistics

The dimensions of the Yukon Hybrid are 79.00 inches wide by 202.00 inches long. It sits a comfortable 76.90 inches off the ground. It seats a standard six passengers, with 4 doors. The wheelbase of 116.00 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

The GMC Yukon lists at $35,345 when new. The dealer cost on the truck was $32,341.

Fuel Efficiency

The 2008 Yukon’s normal fuel system runs on electric/gas. The fuel is regulated electronically, with a fuel-injected multi-port fuel injection (MFI) style of design. The fuel tank holds 26.00 gallons.

The Yukon Hybrid received a miles-per-gallon rating of 15 - 16 in-city driving and 20 - 22 when it came to long-distance. Being a electric/gas-powered hybrid truck, this was subpar.

In Summary

Considering all factors the 2008 GMC Yukon Hybrid was a rowsing. GMC responded to critisims about the 2007 Yukon and made drastic changes. The result is better than the sum of its parts. Look for more from GMC along these lines in the future.

There’s been a lot of talk about the GMC Yukon for 2002. As a leading truck in the sport utility market the Yukon (and in this case specically the SLT version) has maintained a good reputation. The 4-door Yukon is especially appealing to broad audience, making it a perfect truck to help GMC as a brand in general.

The Yukon SLT is equipped with a General Motors 5.3 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Vortec engine is mated to a General Motors 4-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for GMC.

For the 2002 Yukon, the fuel configuration is a electronic SFI, using FLEX for fuel.

The Yukon is 198.90 inches long, 78.90 inches wide, and 76.70 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 116.00 inches. It is able to seat 6 comfortably.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $34,091 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $29,830. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Sport Utility.

The Yukon SLT received an fuel efficiency rating of 14 - 15 MPG driving in the city and 18 - 19 when it came to long-distance. The flex-powered Yukon is a green truck.

In 2001 and 2002 the Yukon SLT was availble in the exterior colors of Fire Red, Garnet Red Metallic, Indigo Blue Metallic, Onyx Black, Pewter Metallic, Polo Green Metallic, Storm Gray Metallic, and Summit White.

A powertrain guarantee is provided (36,000 miles/36 months), and a 36,000 mile, 36 month guarantee also comes with the GMC Yukon. This is standard for the price range.

The 2002 model year was telling year for the GMC Yukon. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the SLT version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.
