GMC Yukon

A lot has been said about the GMC Yukon for 2006. As GMC’s entry in the sport utility market the Yukon (and in this case specically the SLT version) has maintained a solid reputation. The 4-door Yukon is especially appealing to wide market segment, making it a perfect truck to help GMC as a brand in general.

Performance

GMC Yukon Engine Specs: The Yukon SLT comes outfitted with a Vortec 5.3 liter, 8-cylinder motor that uses 16 valves. The engine, manufactured by General Motors, is teamed up with a General Motors 4-speed transmission. This arrangement has demonstrated to be an effective style for GMC.

The Yukon uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The truck uses torsion bar and coil springs front and rear respectively.

The 2006 Yukon’s normal fuel system runs on flex. The fuel is regulated electronically, with a fuel-injected multi-port fuel injection (MFI) style of design. The fuel tank holds 26.00 gallons.

Yukon SLT Statistics

The dimensions of the Yukon SLT are 78.90 inches wide by 198.90 inches long. It sits a comfortable 76.70 inches off the ground. It seats a standard six passengers, with 4 doors. The wheelbase of 116.00 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

There is a 36,000 mile, 36 month warranty with this vehicle, including a powertrain warranty of 36,000/36 miles/months. This is normal for this price range.

The OEM suggested retail price (MSRP) was $34,705 when new. The dealer cost on the truck was $31,061. This price was in line with the industry standard price for a 4-door Sport Utility.

Fuel Efficiency

The 2006 Yukon gets 20 miles/gallon on the highway and only 16 in the city. This is average for a sport utility truck.

The vehicle is available in Blue-Green Crystal, Carbon Metallic, Deep Blue Metallic, Onyx Black, Sand Beige Metallic, Silver Birch Metallic, Sport Red Metallic, and Summit White.

In Summary

The 2005 model began the promise of the GMC Yukon. The 2006 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers GMC hopes that the Yukon SLT will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
