The Honda EV Plus Base for 1999: Improving on 1998

March 21st, 2009

As time has gone by several things can be said about the Honda EV Plus series: including the strong reaction most buyers have towards their car. The 6-cylinder engine is at the core of the strong emotions, it is reliable for its class and delivers a huge amount of torque.

The EV Plus Base is equipped with a Honda unrated liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 12 valves. The engine is mated to a N/A 4-speed transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Honda.

The 1999 EV Plus’s normal fuel system runs on electric. The fuel is regulated electronically, with a Fuel Injected () style of design. The fuel tank holds 17.10 gallons.

Steering control is handled through a n/a-steering n/a-style configuration. The EV Plus has power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. The car uses n/a front springs and n/a in the rear.

106.90 of wheelbase allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers. It sits a comfortable 56.90 inches off the ground. It seats a standard five passengers, with 3 doors. The dimensions of the EV Plus Base are 188.80 inches long by 70.30 inches wide.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $15,200 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $13,527. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 3-door Hatchback.

The EV Plus Base received a miles-per-gallon rating of 22 - 25 in-city driving and 29 - 31 when it came to long-distance. Being a electric-powered hybrid car, this was subpar.

The vehicle is available in Deep Velvet Blue Pearl, Flamenco Black Pearl, Satin Silver Metallic, and Taffeta White.

A powertrain warranty is provided (36,000 miles/36 months), and a 36,000 mile, 36 month guarantee also comes with the Honda EV Plus.

The 1998 model began the promise of the Honda EV Plus. The 1999 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Honda hopes that the EV Plus Base will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
