The GMC Savana 2500 Base for 2003: Improving on 2002

In 2003 GMC released the Savana 2500 Base to the van-buying market. The Savana 2500 came in two configurations: Base and SLE. The Base configuration is powered by the 6.0-liter eight-cylinder engine, which makes 18 - 20 highway miles and 15 city. The Savana 2500 competes in the Extended Cargo Van market segment, in direct competition with Toyota.

Performance

The Savana 2500 Base is equipped with a General Motors 6.0 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Vortec engine is mated to a General Motors 4-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for GMC.

The fuel system for the 2003 Savana 2500 is a traditional SFI, running on CNG fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 31.00 gallons.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Savana 2500 has power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The van uses coil front springs and leaf in the rear.

    There’s no doubt that GMC is up to it’s old tricks with the Savana 2500? I’m hoping next year’s example is improved.
