The 2000 Civic is an important vehicle to Honda for the sedan market segment. The GX is a member of a series of seven trim levels for the Civic which include Si, DX, EX, HX, CX, GX, and LX. The four-door car with its front-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Honda. There is strong competition from vehicles from Hyundai.

There are several reasons why the Honda Civic GX sold well in 2000. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a Honda, specifically a Civic.
